Swim Lessons

Everyone,

Today at Butterfly's swim lessons, I sat in the lobby right next to the glass door and watched her swim. There is only one other boy in her swim class. I LOVE that ratio for swimming. We are taking them through the county. We lucked out on this class size though.

Because she has such a great class ratio, I've been watching her improve in every single lesson in huge leaps and bounds. This time I watched her propel herself across the pool (with the aid of a float held in front of her) and float on her back all by herself. She also was diving underneath the water to pick up rings on the pool floor.

She is LOVING swimming every week. I never have to force her to get ready like I used to with dance class. She walks to the pool happily (we live about half a mile from the pool) and walks home skipping and jumping. She did tell me today that dance class was fun at the end. And she always LOOKED like she was having a good time in class.

No matter. I'm liking the half hour or so to sit and read. I'm also liking the walk to and from the pool. We get to talk and she gets some serious one on one time with me. Of course, we have all of nap time without the boys too but that's my time to "work" and so she watches a movie.

She's changed her favorite color from orange back to purple. Random. That's what she woke me up at 6:15am to tell me this morning. I was NOT a happy camper. Because when she wakes up, so do the boys.

This color change is the reason I was dragging today and was not very productive at all. We at least survived the day and now, off to bed.

Face Incidents

Everyone,

This spring has been a big one for face incidents. About 3 days ago, Butterfly was running down the sidewalk in front of our house. She was chasing the boys. She was going very fast. I saw her lean forward and then hit the sidewalk.

With her face.

Poor girl. She also scraped both knees, her elbow and the tip of her nose. She also scraped that skin between her nose and her lip really good. How did she get there?! There was a lot of blood. There was a lot of crying. Her wounds today look okay except her one knee. That one is looking rather oozy and gross. She said it looks like applesauce. I had to agree.

Last night I was at church for a meeting and Juice took the kids for a walk to the park. Everything was going fine. He was letting the kids take turns walking Soot the puppy. Well Soot decided to go one way and hit the end of the lead kind of hard. Professor was walking her at the time and just flew off his feet. Guess where he landed?

Yep, on his face.

Apparently there was A LOT of blood and Juice was wondering if he had to take him to the emergency room. He also had to get all 3 kids home in a rush to take care of Professor. He ran home and was helped out by one of our neighbors. Who carried a distraught Pirate. Butterfly now knows her address and she apparently told him it all the way to the house.

No serious injuries for Professor but he now has road rash across his face too. His forehead, his nose, his lips and chin are all scrapped up. He is NOT a happy camper. I don't blame him! If I had a horrible bloody nose and a traumatic face plant, I would not be happy either.

I don't know why but these kids always seem to face plant it in the spring. Why is that?

Never Miss a Moment of Your Child's Life

Everyone,

Are you missing out on the cute things your children do? Do you feel like you're too busy running your household to be there for your baby's milestones?

I have a solution for you!

I invite you to try "Older Sibling version 4.5." You too can have complete audio play by play of your young child's life while you are in the other room.

Not sure how "Older Sibling version 4.5" would work? Here is a stunning example of the efficiency of the model.

Mother and Father, in the kitchen making dinner.

Children in the family room watching an educational show involving American Sign Language. "Older Sibling version 4.5" and "Younger Sibling version 2.0a" and "Younger Sibling version 2.0b" are enjoying the joys of tv in the afternoon.

"Younger Sibling version 2.0b just signed 'water'!" Older Sibling version 4.5 announces.

"Good job!" Mother calls from the other room.

"Younger Sibling version 2.0b just signed 'cat'!" OSv4.5 announces, just seconds later.

"Younger Sibling version 2.0b just signed 'dog'! He knows dog!" OSv4.5 announces, just a few more seconds later.

"YSv2.0b signed 'frog'!" Another announcement by OSv4.5.

These announcements come at regular intervals through out the next half hour.

Older Sibling version 4.5 comes loaded with a verbose vocabulary and a voice that will pierce any wall. It also does not miss a beat when it comes to your little one's milestones. It is also helpful in the event your younger children try to climb out of the window/pull the dog's tail/spill and spread milk over the kitchen table. Sadly, Older Sibling version 4.5 does have a few glitches. It ceases to work in the event of a movie or an engaging game.

I urge you to consider getting yourself an "Older Sibling version 4.5" for yourself.  Act fast!

Poor Kid

Everyone,

After unsuccessfully keeping him down yesterday and this morning, I think he woke up from his nap sore. He was cross. He only wanted Mommy. So we all sat and watched movies this afternoon and he peed all over me. (His diaper is worn looser because of where the incision is...and it's prone to leaking. He had to have 3 outfits today because of it!)

I've been very on top of the whole pain medication thing. I can tell when we're getting close to the next dose though. He starts to get really cranky, cries a lot, and big circles show up under his eyes. Poor baby! I hope that he starts to feel really better soon because I'm really hurting to see him hurting.

This morning I went to get them out of their cribs and he said, "Uh-oh!" So I went over expecting to see something (not sure what now) and he looks up at me and said, "ow!" and started to bawl. It was so heart wrenching. I swooped him up (soggy pjs and all) and just held him and rocked until he stopped crying.

This also put out Professor who is used to spending all morning in my arms and he was cross and cranky with me too. And Butterfly was so sweet this morning petting Pirate's head and getting him toys. But the sweetness wore off and by the evening she was a whining mess. I know she just wants attention. They all do. But sadly, Pirate needs me the most. Right now, the rest will have to deal.

I took Professor to the store with me this evening after Juice got home. What a good little boy he is! I guess I never realized how well behaved he is for me. He just stays really close, follows me where ever I go, and is happy not to touch things. It's so funny to me that I'm JUST noticing this with him. I guess when I go out I'm so worried about keeping everyone in line, I didn't realize that I didn't need to keep him in line. A fun discovery.

The last of our huge snow pile melted today. The crocuses are blooming and the grass is greening up. It won't be long till all the trees are in bloom and spring will be here. It's been over 70 degrees the last few days. So beautiful! I'm hoping that we'll make it to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom this year.

The Bestest Day Ever

Everyone,

Tonight Butterfly told me it was the bestest day she's ever had. So what made today so great? What is her formula for having a best day?

Morning: I had a bunch of errands to run this morning. I was going to a friend's garage sale and really didn't want the kids with me. So Juice, super nice guy that he is, stayed home with them and I ran my errands. He said what he did this morning was give her the cereal that she wanted and read books to them for almost 2 hours straight. These kids sure do love books.

By the time I got home, he was ready to go to work and not talk to anyone for awhile. I got Butterfly a new Sunday dress and a few new leggings to go under dresses. She has decided she will not wear jeans anymore. She only wants to wear dresses. Okay then.

We had her favorite food for lunch. Mac and Cheese! We also had some grapefruit juice, and some grapes. The boys went down for their naps right after lunch. She will not have quiet time in her room anymore. She and I watched a movie. (Well she watched, I worked.) I let her have girl scout cookies and conversation hearts while watching the movie.

She helped me make dinner. We had quiche tonight. She was so excited to see Daddy when he came home for dinner. She played nicely with the boys while dinner cooked. She ate 3 pieces of quiche and crowed about how good of a cook she is.

She played nicely with the boys after dinner too. She helped Daddy with the dishes while I put the boys to bed. She and I played games on the computer until it was bed time. We did fight a little over brushing her teeth. She thinks she can brush for a second, spit, brush, spit, brush, spit, etc. We had a good story time.

We even rocked in the rocking chair tonight. This is her favorite thing. She only wants to do it with me. When she was the boys age, this was the only thing we could do for her to get her ready for bed. And I think I rocked her every single night until I could barely move I was so pregnant with the boys. It's something that I can tell she misses. It's a special treat now.

It was while I was rocking her that she told me that this was her bestest day ever. I'm so glad Honey. So, so glad. :)

More Fun With Syrup

Everyone,

Joining Lolli for pictures this Friday!

Butterfly and Lolli's little boy, AJ, really enjoyed eating pancakes out for preschool.  We have such a fun time with these kids and school.  I can't believe that summer will be here in a few short weeks and then these kids will go to school.  Not only will I loose Butterfly to school all day, I'll loose my excuse to hang out with Lolli every single week.  Oh we'll still get together...never fear!  Just we won't have school to do together.  I've enjoyed it.  I think Butterfly and AJ have too.

  They are such fun kids!

From Butterfly's View

Everyone,

Last year for Christmas Butterfly got a kid camera.  It eats through batteries like you would not believe.  Sometimes she takes a lot of pictures, and sometimes it sits in the bottom of a drawer for months.  The past few days she's taken a lot of pictures.  I finally downloaded over 200 of her pictures today.  They span from Christmas till this afternoon.  She was THRILLED to see what she took.  And she kept telling me how much she likes that picture.  Even if it's just a black picture.  Or if her finger is in the way.  She thinks it's a work of art.  These are some of the more interesting pictures I think she took.

Look at those cute cute feet!  We had a lot of feet pictures but I like this one the best.

There's a whole series of pictures where she is making different faces to see what she looks like.  This is the only one that is clear (ish).

I find it interesting to see how she views her brothers.  And also how they view her!

Cooking day!  We made bread together and she took pictures of every step.  Very Pioneer Woman of her.  :)

Learning about TV

Everyone,

So this afternoon Butterfly was complaining that one of her movies was not working.

"You need to fix this movie because it is very sticky." I pulled it out of the player and there were fingerprints ALL over the disk. No wonder it was sticking. I told her we shouldn't touch the shiny side.

"Why?"

"Well, because that's where the movie is." She looked at the disk and looked up at me like I was crazy.

"The movie is on the TV. This (pointing to the disk) only tells it what to play," she told me matter of factly.

"Nooo, the disk IS the movie. Look, there's a little light on the inside of the dvd player that looks at the shiny side of the disk and gets the pictures. Then the light shines on the screen and the pictures come out."

"Oh, so you learned not to touch the shiny side when you were little huh? And now you're telling me!"

"When I was little we didn't have these kinds of movies. We had tapes. They were about as big as a book and we played them in a VCR."

She looks a little stunned at that. I continued, "And when Nana was little, she didn't have movies in her house. She had to go to a theater if she wanted to see one."

"No she didn't."

"Yes, I'm sure she did honey."

"Nope."

"You want to call her and ask?!"

"Yes!" So we called up my mom who told Butterfly what I said was true. Then my mom took it a step further and said that when Nana-Great (her mom) was little she didn't even have a tv at all!

Butterfly took the phone away from her ear and told me that Nana-Great had no tv when she was a little girl! She put the phone back to her ear and said, "That's HORRIBLE!" I think she was secretly interested though because she has kept asking me what Nana-Great did when she was little if she couldn't watch tv. I told her Nana-Great does what Butterfly does when she's not allowed to watch tv...she played!

Not so horrible, I think.

Chrsitmas Tree

Everyone,

Tonight Juice and I decided to take down the Christmas stuff. Normally I'm sad when the tree goes down but not this year. I was ready for it to be gone. Probably because we got several big presents for the kids and I'm feeling a little over stuffed with stuff.

So Juice pulled the tree down with the help of all the kids (that guy has the patience of a glacier sometimes!) and started wrapping it up in the sheet we store it in. As he was putting the last sheet over the tree, Pirate started screaming. Then he started patting the tree and crying. It was so cute. He did not want to see the tree go away.

While the tree was up, Professor used to bug us to turn it on all the time. He would drag us over there (which he now does, it's very cute/annoying) and say, "Tee! Tee!" Once the tree's lights were on, he would drag us to each window and make us turn those lights on. "Liie! Liie!"

I think the boys had a great Christmas. I know Butterfly is already asking when Christmas will be here again.

Title Goes Here

Everyone,

I am at a loss of what to say today. It was our normal crazy run around day. My van has been in the shop for minor things and so I spent the morning helping Juice move the car seats from his car back to my van. It's exciting to move those things, let me tell you!

We had a great time at the PRC with friends. The kids did paper hand turkeys (so so cute!) and Butterfly was great in circle time. The teacher even told me it was nice to have her during circle time because she felt like she was reaching one kid and that made her feel good. Butterfly is such a cute girl.

They all had super long naps today (3 hours for the boys and a hour for Butterfly). I also took a nap. I hate being sick.

Butterfly helped me make dinner tonight. We made creps. They were okay. I ran out of regular flour so we had to use my whole wheat flour and they were very dense. But good. She ate a ton.

Tonight, we will see if Butterfly will keep her bed dry in just panties! Wish us luck!

Wow They Really Do See!

Everyone,

The other day we had both boys in their high chairs getting ready for dinner. Butterfly had set out the plates and given the boys their forks (her chore) and we were just bringing the food to the table. Butterfly called out, "Let's pray!" Both the boys folded their arms with big happy grins on their faces.

It was so adorable.

Butterfly said the prayer with Professor muttering along with her. She mentioned in her prayer that he was saying it with her and how happy she was that he learned to pray.

That was also so adorable!

Once she said "amen" both boys yelled out, "men!"

The fun thing about this is that we haven't taught them prayers. With Butterfly we folded her arms for her and taught her how to do this. We didn't do it with the boys. Mostly because they out number us now and mostly because we are too tired/hungry/frustrated to make them fold their arms.

Apparently we're doing something right because now any time anyone says, "Prayer time!" they fold their arms.

Seriously it's so stinking cute I'm going to have to record it.

Crafts with a Purpose

Everyone,

After finding 4 of Butterfly's bows scattered around the house (including one on top of the fridge. How it got there, I don't know.) I knew we needed a new way of storing them. The cheep dollar store Christmas basket they had all been piled in was not working any more. So I had an idea that I would hang a ribbon and then clip all her bows to it. Making them easily accessible and also kind of pretty!

After googling "bow hanger" for about ten minutes, I came across several different websites that said to take the glass out of a frame and string ribbons inside the frame. What a great idea! But why waste the glass when you can buy glassless frames at the craft store? So I hauled all three kids there to look for supplies. (Flower I miss you!)

Butterfly picked out the frame and the ribbons. We had paint at home and she dictated what color she wanted it to be. What do you think?

This is it hanging in the kids' bathroom.

Now the only problem is keeping the boys from pulling at it. I think I'll need to hang it a little higher! Also, this girl needs more bows!

Boring!

Everyone,

I am a boring blogger! Seriously can I be any more boring? I would stop reading me if I was reading this. I chalk it up to being out of the writing groove. Utah really threw off my groove. Will you stick with me while I get back up to being semi-interesting? Pretty please?

Today we decided to stick close to home and go to the Amish market for lunch. I made Butterfly cry three times. She was a princess today and "princess twirl mom. You should know that." Well, my Miss Butterfly is not the most graceful child. Poor girl is going to be long and awkward for a long time. Anyway, twirling + awkwardness = disaster in a small shop. She was incredibly well behaved at lunch. All the kids were. Pirate was flirting with the waitresses, Professor was picking the cheese off of his grilled cheese sandwich and eating only that. And Butterfly was just eating. We bought bread and candy. We also all sat down at the table I really want to buy and I drooled over it again. I even found a china hutch that matches it with hand carved flowers and vines all over it. Beautiful.

We stopped by the farmer's market as well. Boy I missed the farmer's market here! It's small (3 booths) but the fruit is amazing. We got blueberries which are almost all gone. And the peaches are so flavorful! Yum!

Book club was tonight for me. It was the last one for a member of ours and I'm going to miss her! She is moving far away (okay, to Utah...but it is far! I just drove it. I should know.) and we just needed to have time to be with each other. I love book club.

Swimming

Everyone,

Tonight was Butterfly's very last swim lesson. The one that they encourage the parents to come and watch (they kick us out otherwise...important I think). So Juice came home from work early and we packed up the boys and our sweet Butterfly to swim lessons.

Guess what I forgot to pack? MY CAMERA.

I was annoyed. And a little sad. I could have taken video of her jumping up and down on the side of the wall! I could have shown you that she is by far the biggest kid in the class. I could have shown you how utterly fearless she is in the water. Instead, you'll have to use your imagination.

So one of the things that her teacher has them do is jump while holding onto the wall. She jumps as high as she can and makes an impressive splash coming down. The poor tiny kids next to her have no chance. She is completely oblivious to them though and just was to jump "the highest biggest fastest that I can!" (Someone let her see the Incredibles and now she wants to be Dash. Sigh.)

They play ring around the rosy and have the kids blow bubbles at the end or put their face in the water. Butterfly dunks herself every time instead. She comes up sputtering water and looking a little shocked but happy. She even put her face in the water and walked 2 or 3 steps to her teacher today. It was truly amazing.

Juice leaned over and asked if I was hiding some kind of mermaid genes because she suddenly turned into a fish. She really did. She passed everything on her report card (except for 2 things related to floating on backs...I don't think they even went over that.) and she is cleared to advance to the next class: strokers! We aren't putting her in that class this summer because I think we are going to try and get her into swim lessons at my mom's pool. It would give us something to do and it runs every week we are there. She'll do strokers maybe in the fall or next spring.

She even jumped into the pool without her teachers help and came right back up to the surface. I'm so proud of her. And I can't wait to go swimming with her!

Potty Woes

Everyone,

Just like the economy is tanking, so is our potty training. There has been no good potty trips today. Poor Butterfly has wet her panties every single bathroom trip today. Sigh...

I've done a lot of reading. Mostly on potty regression because that is what I feel like is happening. And I don't know why it's happening. Almost every thing I read is on a big change. Like a sibling or a move or a new classroom or something like that. The only thing I can think of is that the boys have become more mobile. Maybe she's afraid of loosing her toys to it?

I'm just not sure what to do for her with this. I feel like I can't deal with it and I wish she would go back to just doing it. We've talked about timers, rewards again, or something else but it just doesn't seem to encourage her to go.

Juice and I are both very tired the past couple of days. I think we're a little short with her, especially with this problem. I'm really not liking it.

Random Thoughts

Everyone,

The mouse is dead! The mouse is dead! Icky too. Juice put it in the dirty diaper pail outside. It creeps me out every time I have to put a dirty diaper in there but there was no where else to put it until garbage day. I'm just glad it's not summer.

It is SO not summer. In fact, it snowed today! It's crazy cold for this time of year. Thanks Mom and Dad, for bringing winter back with you. :) The flowering trees do look enchanting with all the snow drifting down. Sadly, no pictures as I was driving furiously home from the park. Too cold to play today!

I am thinking of getting a few blueberry bushes to live in pots for us. Anyone have experience growing blueberries? Anyone?

I spent the afternoon on the phone with different people setting up stuff for the boys' birthday. I am so excited to celebrate one whole year! And I'm so happy we survived it.

I had to change Butterfly's clothes 4 times today. That girl is pushing the potty limits. She obviously doesn't know where the potty limits are since she went over them 4 times today. She is also pushing MY limits because this is driving me crazy!

Even though the conformation email says that my White House Easter Egg Roll Tickets will be emailed to me April 6-8th, they have not come yet. I am slightly worried. I guess they still have about 28 hours left to email me. I will probably call the company tomorrow and check because that would suck if I didn't actually get any tickets. Especially since I have a conformation email and number.

Only 52 hours until my parents get here! (Give or take a few hours...I kind of got side tracked around hour #40.) I'm excited to see them again and have a week of fun filled exploration. Weather permitting, the airplane park, the cherry blossoms, the zoo, and the Lincoln Paper display are all on the list. Weather not permitting includes a few museums and probably the mall.

I have been so wrapped up in Operation Destroy Mouse and All Available Entrances To Warm House for Rodents that I haven't done any cleaning. Mostly I am cleaning to find my metro pass. It's around here somewhere...I'm just not sure where.

More on ODM&AAETWHR later, including cement. This should be fun. (Know what else would be fun? Playing godfather with the mice...putting their little feet in tiny cement blocks and pushing them off the pier of the local lake. Too cruel?)

Jazzed Up!

Everyone,

My friend Lala (not to be confused with Lolli, or maybe you do...either way, different people) came over today to exercise. We typically get together twice a week, once at her house and once at mine. She has a fascination with Belly dancing for fitness so that is what we have been doing. It's been a lot of fun.

Today she mentioned she wanted to do some deep stretching so I convinced her we should do my post-natal yoga tape. Well, she consented to watch it, I did the yoga. She made funny comments about the ladies and their babies, I worked on stretching out my back and shoulders. She left feeling a little better, and I ended feeling A TON better. I do so love to do my yoga.

Also today, we went to the resource center with Lolli and AJ. And although we didn't have the chance to talk a ton, the kids all had a great time. My 3 even took a 2 hour nap when we got home! Yay! (That was when I did my yoga.)

Butterfly insists lately on playing surprise. She makes up these elaborate "sets" full of her toys she has hidden underneath blankets and buckets. We are then to say, word for word, her script and she acts totally surprised. It's very cute and fun the first 3 or 4 times. After that, I get bored and tell her to either change the toys or change the words. She opts for neither and changes the people involved. In other words, she lets me go do something else while she acts out all the parts, word for word.

Today she insisted on playing surprise at the resource center and I had to flat out tell her to play something else. We probably spent a good half hour playing surprise with the lamb, pig, chicken nesting toy. Pirate spent most of his visit slack jawed and having a great time. And Professor got himself stuck in the play house while trying to go through the door. What a fun family I have!

Book club tonight! I'm going to be tired tomorrow.

Butterfly's Dream

Everyone,

A few nights ago, between 12am and 2am, Butterfly woke up screaming at the top of her lungs. So Juice goes pounding up the stairs (he was up playing his game) and asked her, "What's wrong?!"

She was bolt upright on her knees in bed. She started to cry, "My turtle! My turtle!"

This is her favorite toy lately. Juice thought it had fallen on the floor and so he started searching for it in the dark. When he didn't find it on the floor, he looked for it on her bed. He found it right next to her in her blanket. He gave it back to her and she snuggled up to him still sobbing, clutching her turtle tightly.

After a second, she calmed down. She said, "Daddy, are you sorry? Are you sorry you threw my toys in the toilet?"

He's baffled. "Uh...honey I think you were just having a bad dream. I would never throw your toys in the toilet."

"But the other night! You did! You threw my turtle in the toilet!" She started to cry again.

"I love your turtle honey. I would never throw it in the toilet. It's just a bad dream. Go back to sleep." He was trying really hard not to laugh. Although we did a lot of laughing after she went back to sleep.

So funny!

Favorite Photo Friday

Everyone,

My favorite picture of the week. PhotobucketAnd I've got a few really great ones. My flash is finally working (with new batteries) and I've had a lot of photo opportunities this week. Also this week: yogurt. I made yogurt in my crock pot with this recipe. It is great and tastes awful because there is no sugar or anything sweet in it. But, with a little honey or syrup and some fruit, I love it!

It calls for a half gallon of milk, but now I have a half gallon of yogurt and really...we don't eat that much. So now I'm trying to think of things to use yogurt in. Any ideas?

Butterfly had an idea of something to use the yogurt with. Face painting!

Saturday is a Special Day

Everyone,

Since Juice had yesterday off, I had a pretty nice day.  We got all of our errands done yesterday and so we basically had the whole day free today.

Butterfly and I went to her very first primary activity.  I had to go early and help with the 8-11 year old girls who were setting up.  The other twin mom in my ward was there so we chatted about twins and the boys and the disaster I had the other day.  Her twins are 14 now and I love talking with another mom who has been there.  Espically with twins.

Butterfly was very good for the most part at the party.  She made some new friends (which she can't remember the names of them so I have to) and she payed attention to her teacher well.  I got some cute pictures of her class together (which I don't think her teacher was very happy to do but oh well).  It was a good morning.

Both the boys are getting colds so when we got home, they were pretty cranky.  We all had lunch (in which Professor managed to flip the spoon every time I tried to give him something but ate great from Daddy...sigh) and naps for everyone.  I ran to the store to get something I forgot yesterday and went to explore the used book store near by.  I've never been there.  It was confusing.  But I managed to come home with the book I wanted (after asking the employee to find it because I couldn't) and 4 other books.  I have a major soft spot for books.  I almost bought a book that mentions my grandmother (Dad's mom) but didn't.  Maybe I should go back and get it.

Anyway, I came home with books to read and tried to get the boys to play with their toys so I could read!  But no dice.  They wanted to nurse but then they were distracted by my book or something their brother did or whatever.

Juice and I made dinner together.  All 3 kids joined us in the kitchen and cried.  Professor probably the loudest.  He did not have his second nap and was cross and cranky!  We were able to feed them little bits of ham to keep them entertained to at least get the meat loaf in the oven.

Bath night tonight.  Butterfly was so anxious to get in the bath that I just plunked Professor in there too.  They had such a good time together splashing!  Juice brought Pirate in to watch and you could tell he wanted to get in too.  Tomorrow buddy!

Wow, I just realized that he has not had a bath in over a month.  Ew.

Everyone sing, "Tomorrow!  You're only a day away!"
