Movies

Everyone,

I seriously do not watch our cable any more. Between Butterfly wanting to watch her shows, me limiting her tv time, and the fact that there is nothing on, we decided to cancel our cable. I guess it comes at a good time since we will not be using it for an entire month and why pay for it when we won't use it. I only use our dvr and it has been empty for over a month now. Plus, I figure all the shows I do watch I can watch online anyway. So out goes cable.

And in comes netflix. I've never had an account with them before. I just spent the weekend looking at the movies and finding a few I'd like to get. Okay, 103. I am totally excited about doing this (although I probably should have waited until after our Utah trip because I won't use them for a whole month and pay for it when I'm not using it). Are there any movie recommendations out there? What should I rent? So far most of my list is my little pony movies for Butterfly and some of the new releases I was never able to go and see in the theater. I am up for anything not R rated or scary.

Apparently, the warehouse is in the next town over so you can get your movies every other day if you watch them the day it comes and drop them in the box before 5pm that same day. I am just really excited to get some serious movie time in and hopefully be able to watch something new besides Dumbo and Nemo.

  1. I really liked Waitress a lot, although I'm not sure what it's rated... if it was R, it was because of her husband, and he's not in much of the movie. Also, for the entire family, have you seen Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium? I love that movie.

  2. I LOVE netflix! So do my kids, it's like Christmas every week. I've chosen some unknown BBC/literature stuff and it's been a lot of fun.

  3. I love Netflix! I'm watching Breakfast at Tiffany's right now. We're waiting for Stardust. The book was good. It's Sci-Fi, Fantasy. But they have everything so you can't get bored.

I just watched Waitress, too, and it was wonderful. Another, similar pick is Junebug, which is sooo cute. We have Netflix and love it, but I still keep my DVR full. Ah, the luxury of being childless...at least for another 2months. :)

  7. Sooo, what is Grandpa going to watch while he is there, hmmmm? I think Grandpa may go through serious withdrawal.

Mom and I like Music and Lyrics. We just went to see Mamma Mia! tonight and it is just like ABBA, over the top, campy and fun (except for Pierce Brosnan, miscast and CAN'T sing). Others I like lately are Across the Universe (superior music), and the Blue Planet box set from BBC (visuals that are unbelievable!) John Adams box set (I am waiting for Blu-Ray version). Ironman for Juice, though Mom liked it as well.

  8. Astarte- It isn't rated R so it's now on my list! And I already added Mr. Magorium because it was one I wanted to watch in the theater and we never got around to it.

Valinda- I've been going through the BBC stuff and it's amazing how much I've already seen. ;)

Kelly- I love Stardust! We actually bought that one because it was so cute!

Karen- Sadly, Junebug is rated R but the idea looks cute. I wish I could have kept my DVR full but I couldn't think of anything to watch! What do you watch?

Dad- Grandpa is going to watch my Netflix movies with us. :) Besides, you never really watch tv (well, except for racing) while you are here. You are always on your computer. Which is why Butterfly calls you the grandpa with the computer. Across the Universe was added to my list, along with about 10 other musicals it suggested. Have you seen Hair?

    Hi,
This is only the second time I have popped in. I can't remember where I found the link to your blog. In someones sidebar, I beleive. Anyway, I get Netflix as well and really enjoy it. I wanted to mention for you sake that you can put a hold on your account while you are gone so you don't have to pay. Then just take the hold off and the movies start coming again.
    I hope that is helpful!

  10. Gimme a head with hair
    Long beautiful hair
    Shining, gleaming,
    Streaming, flaxen, waxen...

Of course I have heard of it, the musical of my generation. Far out, man!

  11. We love to watch TV shows on Netflix also! Some of our recent favorites: Stargate SG-1 (Sci-fi), JAG (military courtroom drama), Young Riders (western).

  12. You have to watch the new BBC version of Sense and Sensibility . . . it was on Masterpiece Theater and it's fantastic!! So much better than the one with Emma Thompson (which was fairly good). We loved The Holiday, Music and Lyrics, Miss Potter, BBC's Lorna Doone.

Definitely put Mamma Mia on your list, we just saw it and it's cheesy but pretty funny. Although I may never get the image of Colin Firth in a bright blue spandex jumpsuit out of my mind.

  13. Oh and you have to start the series called "Monarch of the Glen" it's another BBC series, and I really enjoyed it! Although I haven't seen the last two seasons yet, it's great!
