No More Cast!

Everyone,

I am so excited!  Pirate is cast free!  We waited until after church and after his nap to do it.  We brought out our baby bath tub and put the infant back rest up and let him sit.  He discovered splashing again about half way through and was driving Juice crazy because he kept splashing Juice.

It took us close to 2 hours to take it off.  Next time, if there is a next time but hopefully NOT, we are going to have the doctor cut it off with a saw.  It was not fun to get off.  We had scissors and two other kids to try and wrestle with while taking it off.  Hence, two whole hours.  He was a prune by the time we got him out of his cast.  Yay!

He is very light.  I got to bathe him right after (in clean water, of course!) and he wimpers every time you move his right leg.  It is very limp.  He makes no effort to move it on his own unless his other leg is moving a lot.  He holds it in the cast position when he's not using it.  He espcially hates to have his knee bent.  Poor little man!  I intend to talk to the doctor tomorrow and get some sort of physical therapy for him, either in the office or something I can do with him at home.

A lot of people said that when they had casts, they were surprised to see how skinny their leg was compaired to their other one.  I was waiting to see if that would be true with Pirate.  But really, it wasn't.  His right ankle is skinnier than his left but everything else looks about the same.  (His right leg is the one he broke.)  Maybe because he was in a full body cast, everything got skinny together.  His little bottom is very boney.

He sat in his high chair for dinner!  Yay!  He curls into me while he's eating like he used to.  I missed that.  Now I'm just waiting to see if his happy kicking comes back in both legs.  I hope so.  I loved seeing both his legs going when he was happy.

Doctor's tomorrow!

  1. Awesome! He is so cute and fragile looking - and it probably feels so weird for him to have use of his leg again. I have a feeling, though, that he will be kicking soon! Congrats on taking it off yourself. :)

Yay! It must feel so great to pick him up and cuddle him without the cast. I hope the doctor's appointment tomorrow is all good.

  9. Whoohoo! Here's to hoping you never have to deal with another infant-sized cast again! (With two boys, it's too much to hope that you'll never *ever* deal with another cast again. LOL.)

  10. That's awesome!! So glad the cast is off! Hope you make it to the doctor okay! If you need a referral to a physical therapist, let me know. We really like our physical therapist group and they work with little kids and they are great with them! Can't wait to see the little man on Sunday without a cast!
