While I'm Out Being a Tourist...

Everyone,

You can enter my new contest! About, oh, 2 weeks ago, I received my other package. I put anything up on here because I was in the throws of twin infant 3 year old toddler no help mode. I enjoyed my pink package sent by Anna in Australia. See, here's a picture of my lovelies:

Butterfly keeps asking me to open the earrings so she can "try them on" or hold them up to her little ears. I have to say that the earrings are my favorite part. Love new jewelry! Also, the card she sent along had a book mark that we've been using to read Charlotte's Web. And the pink pen is currently all over my couch cover because someone (ahem...me) let a small 3 year old child draw on paper with it. Hairspray should get that out right?

So since I have gotten my package, I've been gathering things to put in this person's winning package. Let's just say that I've gone to a lot of touristy things lately and I've just picked up a few things that could be interesting. Leave a comment on this post by Friday at 3pm EST (which is when I should be coming back from the boys' 4 month appointment...4 MONTHS people!) and I will name a winner that day (or night...it will probably be that night) and I hope to send out the package on Saturday. Before my month long visit west. So you better be prompt in getting me your address! (Or if you are one of my family/Utah readers...I will bring it on the plane.)

And remember when Melissa won the other contest? Well, she is getting some interesting stuff too! (I won't say so she will be surprised.) I will send her package out on Saturday too. Thanks for being patient with me Melissa...you won't be disappointed!

K, now comment away. You can even comment more than once to up your odds if you want. Tell us your favorite tourist place or a touristy tip. You know, like you have to have a smart trip card to get out of the metro stations here. Or Annapolis has great fudge at the store by the wharf. Things like that.

  1. Tip: When you go to San Francisco, take the evening Alcatraz trip. It's done by candlelight, and it's AMAZING.

Also, that IS great fudge down there! The sushi at the seafood place just up from the pier is really good, too, but it's a little pricey.

If you come to Kansas City and want to experience the "KC BBQ experience," go to Jack Stack because it's the only famous BBQ place that's not in a bad part of town :)

  3. So, if you have bucks or an expense account, Monte Carlo, baby! Stay at Le Hermitage, Princess Grace's favorite hotel (mine too) and get the spa day overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It's called Les Thermes Marins de Monte-Carlo. Then the nightlife at the Casino and of course the best Italian I have ever had.

For a less expensive international tip, Hotel Oceanic in Vina Del Mar, Chile. Stunning views of the Pacific and FANTASTIC creme brulee. Close to Santiago, you can rent a car cheap and drive up and down the coast.

  4. If traveling to London, do not, I repeat DO NOT stay at the New Atlantic hotel. Picture a rat maze (the halls) and communal toilets and showers. Oh, and don't forget the cockroaches. Nasty.

However, if you ever visit Spanish Fork (hint, hint) hit up Glade's Drive Inn for the best burgers, Two Jack's Pizza for the best pizza, cheesesticks, calzones, etc., or check out Hickory Kist deli for their homemade bread and fudge.

  5. My favorite touristy spot will probably always be Lake Tahoe, California side. That's where I spent every summer as a child and I've been back as an adult and it was still perfect. Have fun with your next contest!!

  8. best local touristy trip. Fort McHenry hands down. The history lesson, the amazing moment when the curtain is pulled back and the flag is whipping in the wind, makes me cry every time. The kids love the fort. They have big celebrations there, but we like it at quiet times. Then you have to have sea food while you are there.

  9. When you go to the Louvre buy your museum pass ahead of time at another site and there are two entrances, one either side of the Arc De Triomphe De Carrousel. Stairs that will take you down from the eastern end of the Tuilleries gardens into the mall and underground entrance.

The Metro stop is Palais Royal/Musee Louvre which offers a direct access walkway via the shopping mall.

Most of the time, this will be a quicker route than the pyramid entrance.

  10. There are quite a few things to do in Vegas that are free, and a lot of things to do far away from the lights of the Strip.

  13. I am SO glad you got your prize!

All my hand wringing ( ie Will It Get There? *worryworry+furrowedbrow*) obviously paid off. ;)

Favorite tourist spot? Honolulu. It was my first stop twenty (!) years ago, when I was traveling alone on a round the world fare. Loved it.

  15. My favorite tourist place is a small town called Guarajuba (in Bahia, Brazil) just north of my city where there is the best beach. We always go during the week and it's totally empty.

Chicago is a wonderful city and summer is the best. Every weekend there is some kind of street festival in each of the neighborhoods.

The Crown Fountain is a lot of fun especially if there loads of kids underneath the water feature. They giggle uproariously.
